I have not posted for a couple of days. This usually means it is the weekend, but this week it was about business. Sometimes, business (or family or church or something) just takes away from everything else. Sometimes, it's just about getting through the days.
Not every day is a victory day. Not every day is a day of celebration and deep thoughts and moments of exaltation. Sometimes, you just have to get through the day.
We have missed this, in much of modern Christianity, because we are so sure that every day is supposed to be wonderful. We are told that everyday is to be a "celebration" and that we are to "rejoice all the time," but we don't really believe it. We don't believe it because we know better. Preachers who teach these ideas know better, too, they just don't admit it.
Life is hard sometimes. Your life is hard sometimes. Sometimes you just want to quit. That's normal and natural and part of the plan. Because you don't quit. You do that last job that you just can't get the energy to do. You care for that person who you wish had never showed up at all. You clean that room that you did not want to clean. You cook that meal you did not want to cook.
This is not being weak or being sinful. It is not about lacking in faith or in "gratitude," as people use the term. It is about being human.
Heaven will be wonderful, but this is earth. Discipline is part of our life and discipline does not always mean punishment. More often, it means discipline. It means doing what needs to be done. It means keeping up with everything even when you are tired.
Be strong this week. The days can wear you out. There will be times that you just want to avoid life, but you will keep going. God will give you strength.
